The Insider Webhook source brings data into Zeotap CDP: Insider posts the events you select — pageviews, user actions, email, push, WhatsApp and SMS events — to Zeotap over a webhook as they happen. To send data in the opposite direction, out of Zeotap CDP to Insider, use the Insider destination.

What this is

Insider is a customer experience (CX) platform that enables businesses to deliver personalised, data-driven interactions across multiple channels. It helps companies analyse customer behaviour, segment audiences and automate marketing efforts to improve engagement and conversions. This source captures the behaviour Insider already observes — what a user viewed, added to a cart, opened or clicked — and streams it into Zeotap CDP, where it joins the rest of your first-party data. In the Zeotap CDP App it sits under the Customer Engagement Channels source category, alongside the other engagement platforms listed on Customer Engagement Channels, and it is a real-time integration: events arrive as Insider sends them rather than in a scheduled batch. Insider and Zeotap CDP each use the word destination for their own outbound side, so the direction is easy to misread. Use this table to confirm you are on the right page:
When you build the webhook in Insider, you select Destination as the Integration Type. That setting describes the direction from Insider’s point of view — Zeotap is the destination Insider posts to — and is what makes this a source in Zeotap CDP.

Supported events and attributes

Insider sends its default events. You choose which of them to forward when you configure the webhook, using the Events and Attributes tabs in Insider. The default events are grouped as:
  • Pageview events — homepage, listing page, product detail page, cart page, purchase and other pageviews.
  • User events — cart cleared, item added to cart, item removed from cart, signup completed and lead collected.
  • Mobile app events — in-app seen, push delivered, mobile social proof seen, app push opened, mobile app opened and survey result.
  • Email events — delivered, open, click, bounce, block, spam report, unsubscribe and resubscribe, including the group variants.
  • Architect events — journey enter, journey exit and journey product action.
  • Web push events — view and click.
  • WhatsApp events — click, delivered, read, unsubscribe and the reply variants.
  • SMS events — click, delivered, subscribe, unsubscribe, undelivered, reply and drop.
For the full list of events in each group, see Implement an Insider Source. Alongside the events themselves you can attach:
  • Event parameters, added per event with + Add Condition, so only events matching those conditions are sent.
  • Additional attributes, chosen from a drop-down. For example, sending the email address with an email opened event lets you tell which address opened a given campaign.
  • A segment filter, applied in the Segmentation step, so data is sent only for users who both perform the selected event and fall inside the segment you pick in Insider.
Which fields actually reach Zeotap CDP therefore depends on the events, parameters and attributes you select in Insider. Once data is flowing, confirm what arrived on the source’s PREVIEW DATA tab before you map it.

Prerequisites

  • Access to the Sources application under Integrate in the Zeotap CDP App, with permission to create a source.
  • An Insider account with access to External Integrations under Integrations in the left panel, and permission to create and launch a webhook integration there.
  • The API URL and Write Key that Zeotap CDP generates when the source is created. The API URL establishes the connection between Insider and Zeotap; the write key authenticates the data Insider sends. Both appear on the source’s IMPLEMENTATION DETAILS tab.
The authentication for this source runs from Insider to Zeotap, not the other way round: Insider authenticates with the write key Zeotap issues, so you do not need an Insider API key or partner name here. Those are asked for by the Insider destination. Treat the write key as a secret — copy it straight from the IMPLEMENTATION DETAILS tab into the Insider webhook rather than pasting it into a ticket, an email or a shared document.

Create the Insider Webhook source

Setting this source up takes two stages, one on each side of the integration. Each stage has its own page.
1

Create the source in Zeotap CDP

Create the source under Sources, choosing Customer Engagement Channels as the category and Insider Webhook as the data source, then enter a name and select a Region. On successful creation, an API URL and a write_key are generated and appear under the source’s IMPLEMENTATION DETAILS tab. Both are needed for the next stage.See Create an Insider Source.
2

Configure the webhook in Insider

In Insider, go to Integrations > External Integrations, find Webhook, name the integration and set Integration Type to Destination. Choose the events, event parameters, additional attributes and any segment filter you want to send. On the Configuration screen, enter the API URL as the Endpoint with the method set to POST, add an Authorization header carrying the write key with the Bearer prefix, enable the body and transform the payload into the structure Zeotap CDP expects. Then launch the integration.See Implement an Insider Source.

Verify the source is receiving data

Check both sides of the integration. In Insider, before going live, use Test Webhook. Insider generates random values for the dynamic fields and sends a test request; the response status and the request details appear in the side panel. Activate the integration once the test returns a successful HTTP response. A webhook left in Draft or Paused at the Launch step sends nothing. In Zeotap CDP, open the source from the SOURCES listing page and check its status:
  • Created — the source exists but has not received any data yet. If it stays here, confirm that the Insider webhook is launched in the Active state, and that its endpoint and Authorization header match the API URL and write key on the IMPLEMENTATION DETAILS tab.
  • Integrated — data has started arriving. You can now preview the incoming records on the source’s PREVIEW DATA tab.
For what each status means, see Components of the Source Listing Page; for how to read the sample, see Components of the Preview Data Tab.
